Excerpt from his Welcome Address during the Conferment and Recognition of Mount Kinabalu Heroes 14 October 2017 I Puteri Nabalu Lodge, Kundasang, Sabah

Today, the Mountain Guides have been recognised at the international level by Royal Institution, Singapore. This is prestigious and rare recognition [ ... ) Not everyone is recognised by Royal Institution Singapore. Only exceptional people have been recognised with honorary titles. I am one of those lucky few (Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institution, Singapore; the highest and most prestigious lifetime honour and title from the Royal Institution and Doctor Fellow of the Royal Institute of Tourism, Singapore; the highest professional title) and now, these mountain guides stand amongst them because they showed exceptional bravery in the face of tragedy on 5th June 2015. They are testament to the best of human endeavour and ability to deal with challenging situations.

My dear brothers and sisters, I hope that this honour will make our people more prudent, to serve better and to uphold the attitudes and traits of the Sabahans, which are courage and willingness to help anyone in trouble. This is what makes Ranau people, our people, the best Malaysians. I am a Sabahan, and I promise myself to be even better than before. My hope is that this will make us better people, and even the best in the entire country.

We can give the generations to come a legacy of courage, of help for those who need our help. We see these issues in terms of humanity, not because we are Dusun, not because we are Malays, not because we are Chinese, but because we are the best children or servants of God in the world.
